Black and Latinx students are often offered professional development workshops and trainings that are devoid of critical information they will need to navigate their work lives in a society where racism and white supremacy can be found at every level of life. In order to prepare the next generation of technology leaders, we created this programming to equip our Black and Latinx students with the knowledge and language to understand, resist and overcome systems of oppression that they face in higher education and 21st century workplace environments.

NBCUniversal is one of the world’s leading media and entertainment companies in the development, production, and marketing of entertainment, news and information to a global audience. For these fireside chats, AOT was joined by 4 NBCUniversal professionals who spoke to our LA students about their career journeys and professional insights. In total, 88 Tech Flex Leaders attended the series.
This fall, students in America On Tech’s TECH360 program learned the fundamentals of web design and development from volunteer instructors and software engineers working at technology companies based in NYC. Over the course of 10 weeks, students learned the basics of HTML and CSS, developed their professional skill sets, and explored industry aligned coding tools. For the final project, students were placed in teams of 2-4 and provided a mock business client brief, along with brief lessons about being a technology consultant and pitching / presenting an idea or project. Students developed a website according to a mock small business client brief and each cohort had its own competition to determine a winner. Today we are featuring those winners in our blog!
