Summer at America On Tech (AOT) is well underway and our 2023 Summer Internship program is in full swing! This year, AOT has placed over 240 young students in paid summer internships at leading technology companies and startups - a 32% increase over 2022!. Read on below for a recap of the program so far! Access Tech Summit RecapTwo weeks ago, AOT kicked off internship season by hosting our annual Access Tech Summit, a multi-day training program for this year’s class of incoming interns. The 2023 summit brought together 94 AOT alums and covered topics such as Managing Projects to Success, Communication Best Practices, Creating Your Professional Brand, Financial Literacy, and more Special thanks to our partners at Verizon, The Black Currency, ATA, Harry's, AWS, Snap, and TikTok for participating in this year’s Access Tech Summit and helping us prepare the next generation of technologists for their first professional roles! 2023 Internship Story- Rofeeah Ayeni What is something you have learned over the past few weeks? I learned to never shy away from asking questions. I realize that when I hesitate on asking questions on things that I don’t understand I spend too much time being confused. However, when I get things clarified earlier on, there’s more of an improvement in the efficiency of my workflow. What is your favorite part of your internship so far? Networking! It has been really nice to meet other interns that share a lot of the same interests as I do. Also, attending events hosted by the Black Employees Network has enabled me to meet Amazon employees and find potential mentors. Feedback From Internship PartnersAOT is exceptionally proud of this year’s class of summer interns and the feedback we have received thus far from interns and employers alike has been extremely positive. We also want to give a special shout out to all of the companies hosting AOT interns this year! Thanks to host companies Amazon, Anteriad, Accenture, Bellla Tierra, Marcom, Black Women Talk Tech, CodeAcademy, Comcast NBCUniversal, Missioncloud, The Black Currency, TheAList., Workopti and many more! Here’s what our host partners have to say so far about their 2023 AOT Intern experiences: “Indira exhibits the technical and confidence skills that has proven to be beyond my expectations. We have tasked Indira to pick up on a SharePoint project that was started by last year's Intern and she has made significant strides in developing the site and we are hopeful she will have it completed by the end of her internship. We asked Indira to demo the site's functionality to C-level staff and she remained poised and confident through the entire meeting! Indira has expressed a strong desire to learn the hardware part of IT. Given her aptitude to quickly learn and apply what challenges her, I strongly recommend that she pursues Cybersecurity and AI related course work.” - Rick Dademo, Anteriad “Fanny and Sonam have been doing extraordinary work so far. They are extremely efficient and hard working and bring great ideas to the table, while being incredibly kind and lots of fun to work with!” - Rikki Ziegelman, Media Manager, Ballroom Basix “It has been really awesome working with my interns! They have all been prompt with arriving to meetings on-time, being available to conference with one another, asking thoughtful questions, contributing great ideas, and displaying great work ethics. I also appreciate how well they've been able to jump in and create the team atmosphere. I am really excited about this team and what we will be able to accomplish this summer!” - Imani, Open Market/Pointedspaces Become a Partner Are you interested in having your company host an AOT intern for your summer or fall internship at potentially no cost to you?
