On Monday, November 8, 2021 and Tuesday, November 9, 2021, America on Tech partnered with Snap Inc. to host a career day for the LA and NYC Tech Flex Leaders, respectively. Snap Inc. is a camera and social media company that develops and maintains Snapchat, Spectacles, and Bitmoji. The event was part of Snap Inc.’s World Kindness Week initiative.

There were 25 students and 12 Snap Inc. volunteers who participated in the speed networking event in Los Angeles, and 32 students with 14 Snap Inc. volunteers at the New York virtual event. The volunteers were eager to speak with students in the small break out rooms, sharing helpful advice about school, working in tech, and the steps in between. The students also appreciated the opportunity to speak with tech industry professionals that work for a company they are familiar with.

Los Angeles student Alyzee Sosa found the career day to be very helpful, sharing, “The networking event was super insightful and eye-opening! I interacted with various panelists with very different careers and engaged in productive discussions about the transition from high school to college, managing a tech major, networking, and exploring new fields of knowledge. I learned that the pathway from high school to college to a career isn't always direct and it's okay to not be exactly sure of what you want to do now, as long as you are willing to learn and explore new things.”

We look forward to working with Snap Inc. to plan more events for our students in the future. Thanks to the Snap Philanthropy team for coordinating, Snap Inc., and the employees who participated for all their support!
