 On October 8, 2020, America On Tech partnered with NBCUniversal to host our first Career Day for this year’s Tech Flex Leaders in NYC. While we have held several career days with our long time partner NBCU, this marked the first time we hosted a VIRTUAL Career Day as part of our continued efforts to ensure that our students have the same access and opportunities within the virtual learning environment. NBCUniversal is one of the world’s leading media and entertainment companies in the development, production, and marketing of entertainment, news and information to a global audience. For this Career Day we were joined by 13 NBCUniversal team members who work in various roles throughout the company who volunteered to speak with our students and share their career journeys and advice. In total, 27 Tech Flex Leaders participated in the Career Day. The session kicked off with a 40-minute panel discussion led by an NBCUniversal Moderator and 4 NBCUniversal Media Tech Associates panelists who discussed their educational and career journeys. They also shared advice on what they wish they had known as high school students and what skills they would recommend students pursue to prepare for degrees and careers in technology. At the end of the discussion, students had a chance to ask the panelists questions which led to a really fruitful and informative discussion.  AOT students listen in as NBCU panelists discuss their career paths. After the panel discussion, AOT students and NBCUniversal team members were separated into breakout groups where 2 AOT students were paired with 1 NBCUniversal team member for the first of two speed networking rounds. During this activity, AOT students were able to ask pressing questions and continue the dialogue inspired by the panel discussion. After 10 minutes, the students were paired with another NBCUniversal team member for the second round of networking and conversations.
Students and NBCUniversal team members returned to the main meeting room in Zoom one more time for a wrap up round where students thanked the NBCU team for their time and participation. Overall the Career Day was very successful and a great start to our Tech Flex Leaders' professional development journey with AOT. We thank NBCUniversal for their continued partnership and support! The aim remains the same, namely to gain physical or psychological advantage over an opponent. It is undoubtedly a challenge for national security establishments to address the wide range of threats that can be labeled hybrid warfare. Cast the definitional net too wide and hybrid warfare becomes too broad a term to be of any practical use to policymakers.
