America On Tech & Mizuho Host Virtual Career Exploration and Financial Education Workshops in NYC!

Our NYC Tech Flex Leaders and alumni are in the thick of procuring their summer technology internships! In our quest to ensure they feel prepared to succeed, we have continued working with our partners to provide career exposure and professional development opportunities over the last few months.

One of those partners is Mizuho, the 10th largest bank in the world by assets.  Last month, America On Tech worked with Mizuho to host two student events.  On Tuesday, March 23, 2021, 21 Tech Flex Leaders attended a Career Exploration Workshop over Zoom. Joined by 12 Mizuho employees, students participated in 3 rounds of small group networking.  During each round, students chatted with a different Mizuho employee about their career journey, recording helpful advice as they begin their own journeys this summer. 

Aaliyah Singh, current AOT student, had this to say of the event:

“I'm thankful that I was allowed to participate in this career day and network with Mizuho professionals...They were all amazing and really helpful; as a senior in high school, I received useful advice from them and I now feel less stressed about entering college and choosing the right career path.”

On Thursday, March 25, 2021, 27 AOT alumni were joined by 11 Mizuho employees for a virtual Financial Education workshop. Topics covered included: budgeting, credit, and compound interest! As students begin their professional careers, this information is so helpful in ensuring they have the agency to make the best financial decisions for themselves. We’re so grateful for partners like Mizuho who are able to support students in this capacity.
