America On Tech & Mizuho Host Virtual Career Day in NYC as part of Mizuho’s Annual Volunteer Day!

On October 28, 2020, fourteen employees from Mizuho joined our NYC Tech Flex Leaders for an evening of Virtual Speed Networking! Mizuho is a leading financial institution with whom we have had the pleasure of working with over the past year to support our students’ professional growth.

During this Virtual Career Day, students were arranged into Zoom breakout rooms where they were joined by a Mizuho employee.  After general introductions, Mizuho employees reviewed general career advice with students, honing in on their interest in technology. Students were able to ask probing questions, trending toward how they could best prepare to secure high school internships at the intersection of technology and finance. Mizuho employees rotated through two additional breakout rooms for a total of three rounds of conversations with a new group of students each time.

​Students learn more about Mizuho before breaking into small group discussions. 

Following this event, one of the Mizuho employees noted, “...one of the students really left an impression on me – particularly at such a young age.  He talked about wanting to enhance his skills at developing programs, wanting to teach others what he knows, and that he aspires to mentor others.  He appears to be contributing to his community by way of exercising these attributes now.”

Before wrapping up the session, participants returned whole-group to reflect on the breakout conversations!
