Today we are excited to share some BIG news - America On Tech is expanding its programs to Miami this summer! This will mark our third location in our national expansion alongside New York City and Los Angeles, and we are thrilled to be able to continue to grow our reach and provide our programs to more underestimated students across the United States. Starting this July, AOT will launch our 3-week TECH360 Program for 50 rising high school juniors and seniors as the first step towards establishing a broader presence within the region, an expansion made possible by the support of Blackstone Charitable Foundation and Citi Foundation. Applications are live for youth interested in applying and more information can be found on our website here.
As part of our expansion, rollout we are launching a Miami Regional Advisory Board comprised of senior leaders in Miami’s tech and business community. Should you or others be interested in giving back in a leadership capacity, please complete this short interest form by April 29, 2022 at 5:00 p.m. EST. Why Miami? America On Tech's work is centered around our mission to decrease the racial wealth gap by increasing equitable pathways for underestimated students into degrees and/or careers in technology. Our program model is uniquely scalable and since launching in Los Angeles in 2019 we have been evaluating cities across the country to determine the area of greatest need and growth potential for our prospective students. After much deliberation, we have determined that Miami-Dade County will be the focus of the next stage of our organization's growth. Miami is quickly becoming a booming tech hub with tech companies, tech departments, and start-ups relocating to the region. Tech training for underestimated youth is paramount so that they can benefit from this growth industry. However, Miami lacks programs to prepare Black and/or Latinx youth for the tech industry during their formative high school years. America On Tech is seeking to change this by bringing our award winning technology education programs to Miami-Dade county completely free of charge. Over the next three years, AOT plans to bring our programs to approximately 800 youth in the greater Miami area. In time our goal is to become a premiere tech program in the region for underestimated youth. What Comes Next? Beginning in July of 2022, America On Tech will launch its TECH360 Summer Camp program for 50 Miami high school students. The three-week summer intensive introduces youth to coding through web design and web development. The program teaches industry-aligned technical and professional skills to enable youth to gain knowledge of key coding languages and frameworks including HTML, CSS, and Bootstrap. TECH360 concludes with a Demo Day competition where youth are broken into teams to compete in the development of a website design. In fall of 2023, we will roll out our flagship Tech Flex Leaders program in the region, an immersive twelve-month out-of-school program for high school juniors/seniors that provides weekly technology classes taught by technologists, offers mentorship with industry professionals and provides access to paid summer internships. This will lead into the launch of our Access Tech internship program in 2024 to assist our students in finding meaningful paid jobs and internships in the field that will ultimately lead towards the furthering of their education and jobs within the tech industry. We are so excited to begin this new journey and we look forward to sharing more in the coming weeks! Now Accepting Applications For Miami Regional Advisory Board Members AOT is at a critical point in its growth where it needs the trusted guidance, expertise and commitment from passionate executives, professionals and volunteers who are passionate about providing young people the skills to thrive in technology and innovation. We are currently seeking Advisory Board members in the Miami area to help amplify our work in Miami. The Miami Advisory Board is composed of volunteers who, through experience, qualifications, passion, and connections, will provide regional support to help AOT fulfill its goals. We expect board members to commit 2-4 hours per month to America On Tech functions, including preparation and follow-up for quarterly board meetings.
