America On Tech and PricewaterhouseCoopers host Virtual Career Day for NYC Tech Flex Leaders!12/8/2020 On December 3, 2020, America On Tech worked with PwC to host our final career day of the fall semester for our Tech Flex Leaders in NYC. During this Career Day, twenty-six Tech Flex Leaders were joined by nineteen PwC professionals for a panel discussion and multiple rounds of speed networking. The panelists came from diverse backgrounds ranging from cybersecurity and intelligent automation to tech audit and systems implementation. PwC is a global network of firms delivering world-class assurance, tax, and consulting services. The session began with a 45-minute panel discussion led by America On Tech’s National Program Lead, Kylie Repasy, and five PwC panelists who discussed their educational and professional backgrounds that led them to their careers at PwC. Several panelists shared that their background was originally not in tech, and many never imagined that they would end up in this field. Panelists gave advice to Tech Flex Leaders as they prepare to apply to internships and begin exploring career paths. One resounding topic of discussion was the power and importance of networking to pursue opportunities they are interested in. At the end of the discussion, panelists left students with some last words of advice. One panelist advised students to “have fun and enjoy what you do. If 2020 has taught us anything, it’s to do what makes you happy.” We’re sure that our Tech Flex Leaders will use these words of advice as they begin their career exploration!
Following the panel discussion, PwC professionals were split into breakout rooms with two Tech Flex Leaders for three, 10-minute rounds of speed networking. During this session, students were able to ask PwC employees for insight into their profession and advice on pursuing careers in technology. One student, Yemi, said that they met two PwC employees who were very informative and helped her find better ideas of what careers they want to pursue in the future. Another student, Helen, shared that she enjoyed getting to hear from the PwC employees and got to learn more about cybersecurity, which is something she wasn’t familiar with before. Before wrapping up the session, all participants returned to the main room to reflect on the networking rounds. One of the PwC employees noted that some of the students took the time to show him some of their projects and he was very impressed by how passionate the students were about their work! A huge thanks to all of the employees at PwC for participating in this event! Interested in partnering with America On Tech to host Career Days with your company?
