We’re Hiring: Director of Individual Giving

Position Title:  Director of Individual Giving 
​Position Type: Full-time 
Location: NYC, LA or Miami (Hybrid: In-person & Virtual)
Start: January / February 2023

Compensation: $90,000

About America On Tech: America On Tech is an award-winning, early pipeline technology talent accelerator on a mission to decrease racial wealth gap by creating pathways for underestimated students to thrive in technology and innovation. To date, we have worked with more than 4,000+ by providing tuition free technology courses and work-based internship and learning programs to promote the advancement of students into technology. We have offices in NY, LA, and Miami.

Who We Are Looking For: ​We are currently looking for an Individual Giving Director to join our team. This person will report to the Director of Development & Partnerships and manage fundraising activities for individual giving including major gifts, spring campaign and year end campaign. In this role, you will develop gift strategies for donor cultivation, stewardship, solicitation, and plan and execute special donor events.

Responsibilities include: 

  • Lead Major Gifts Strategy with a $150,000 goal
    • Create a comprehensive cultivation and solicitation strategy for each major gift donor based on their philanthropic goals; Work closely with members of the development and marketing team to develop personalized materials that align with donor goals and objectives.
    • Serve as a qualification officer for new leads for major gift prospects ($2,500+) from research, prospect tracking tools, and donor database.  Work in partnership with the Director of Development to build relationships to close major gifts.
    • Lead and create, in collaboration with Development staff and board, strategic “friend-raisers” for prospective donors. Activities for the portfolio will allow for prospect qualification and follow-up solicitation.
    • In consultation with the Director of Development, annually establish personal goals, objectives, and strategies for major gift fundraising, and regularly assess progress toward goals.
  • Lead the two individual giving campaigns (Spring Campaign: $100k goal & Year End Campaign: $200k goal)
    • Create a campaign communication plan including newsletter, email, social media and calls
    • Partner with marketing manager in the creation of marketing materials and donation landing page
    • Lead outreach to prospects including site visit invitations and leverage board contacts 
  • Identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward individual donor prospects. Provide strategic leadership to AOT staff and others in designing and implementing programs needed to sustain major gift support.  
  • Update the list of individual donor prospects, current donors, and lapsed donors and segment by capacity (below $500, above $500, and above $2,500). Determine if each donor/prospect should be solicited for spring campaign, year end campaign, or major gift.
  • Partner with the Director of Development to identify 50 individual donor prospect names with capacity to give above $500 and major gift prospects with capacity to give above $2500 from the AOT Board and three Regional Boards
  • Create a donor communication plan including cultivation strategy for new donors and stewardship strategy for current donors. Plan should be segmented by donor type: Major gift, spring gift, year end gift
  • Track and report fundraising metrics to leadership and board.
  • Help support development efforts as needed.

Qualifications:
  • 6+ years of relevant experience
  • Highly autonomous and able to provide support to supervisors; amazing problem-solver; able to identify solutions around barriers for both self and the Development team.
  • Proven track record of building relationships and inspiring people to take action; Comfort soliciting five-figure or above gifts
  • Experience cultivating and sustaining relationships.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and respectfully on the phone, via email/text, and in-person with donors, board members, volunteers, staff, and the public.
  • Experience with Salesforce (or equivalent donor database) preferred.

Nice to Have:
  • Bachelor’s Degree; Comparable experience will also be considered 
  • Familiarity with Salesforce, Monday.com, Google Suite
