About America On Tech: 
America On Tech is an award-winning, early pipeline technology talent accelerator on a mission to prepare the next generation of leaders by creating pathways into degrees and careers in technology. To date, we have worked with more than 2,500+ students by leveraging the time, talent and expertise of software engineers and developers to teach our tuition-free courses and help provide work-based internship and learning programs to promote the advancement of underrepresented students into technology. Founded in 2014, AOT’s work has been featured in Forbes, CNN, The Huffington Post, TechCrunch, BET and other leading publications. AOT has also been awarded by Forbes 30 Under 30, Wells Fargo and the Brooklyn Borough President’s Office. 

Who We Are Looking For: 
We are looking to hire a Director of Development and Partnerships to assist with all fundraising and partnership efforts. Reporting directly to the CEO and President, the Director of Development will join a team based in NY and LA to raise more than $3MM for the organization annually. AOT maintains a diverse stream of revenue from individuals, foundations and corporations. The Director of Development and Partnerships will focus on all funding streams and management of communications, marketing, and oversight of the donor database and department administrative functions. The position will supervise a grants consultant and part-time coordinators who oversee the communications, marketing and partnerships function within the organization. 

Responsibilities:
Fundraising and Development (80% of time):
  • Prepare and implement an annual fundraising plan that will detail out how AOT will meet its fundraising goals
  • Research and identify prospective new donors and proactively initiate sponsorship and funding 
  • Play a critical role in building AOT’s individual giving and major donor programs, including communications with current and prospective donors, generating reports to present to the CEO / President 
  • Build a portfolio of foundations, corporate, and government grants and lead in the writing of grant proposals
  • Develop event opportunities that yield general operating income for the organization’s programs 
  • Manage one grants consultant to ensure that proposals and reports to funders are executed in a timely manner
  • Maintain a grant schedule on progress and financial reporting to donors; keep the donor management system updated; and monitor the effectiveness of the fundraising program
  • Work closely with the Board of Directors to engage them in fundraising activities throughout the year

Communications and Partnerships Management (10% of time):
  • Establish, maintain, and expand relationships with outside resources, including schools, community organizations, technology companies and peer organizations that lead to earned income for the organization 
  • Manage a team of 2 part-time employees who oversee the communications, marketing and partnerships function within the organization 

General (10% of time):
  • Help in the establishment and management of AOT’s regional board of advisors (NY and Los Angeles) launching in June 2021 
  • Contribute toward the development of standard operating procedures in all areas of business, and continue to find new ways to improve quality and efficiency
  • Collaborate with the leadership team to build organization-wide best practices related to your role  
  • Work cross-functionally with all departments to support the future of AOT and additional projects as necessary
  • Assist and work on additional projects when needed

Must Have:
  • Bachelor’s Degree; Comparable experience will also be considered 
  • 5+ years management experience working in nonprofit fundraising and development 
  • Ability to work well in a startup environment
  • Project Management Experience
  • Data Driven Mindset
  • Strong communication skills--written, oral and presentation
  • Proven Interpersonal skills; working with both students and adults
  • Passion for technology education 
  • Ability to lead and thrive in a startup environment
  • Ability to identify problems before they arise
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively

Nice to Have:
  • Master’s Degree in Education preferred
  • Working knowledge of Google Suite: Drive, Docs, Sheets and Forms
  • Experience with Monday.com, Canva.com, Salesforce, and MailChimp
